23.10. Screening of ‘Tove’ at Jacksons Lane

As part of the celebrations for the Moomins’ 80th anniversary Jacksons Lane presents a screening of Tove, the biographical film about Moomins’ creator Tove Jansson. The evening will be introduced by our director Jaakko Nousiainen.

Helsinki, 1945. The end of the war brings a new sense of artistic inspiration for painter Tove Jansson (Alma Pöysti). Although focusing on her painting career, Tove soon finds the enchanting tales of the Moomin creatures she told to children in bomb shelters rapidly take on a life of their own, bringing international fame and what she feels is freedom. But her desire for liberty is put to the test, when she meets theatre director Vivica Bandler (Krista Kosonen) who ignites an electric and all-consuming love in her. While she begins to find her artistic identity, she discovers the true love is far more complex. A captivating story of Moomins’ creator Tove Jansson, and her turbulent search for identity, love and freedom.

Before the main screening of Tove, a short supporting film, Klovharun (5 mins), will be shown. Klovharun is showcasing Tove Jansson’s summer paradise that inspired the Moomin stories. In addition to Klovharun, a short animation (2 mins) made especially for The Moomins 80th anniversary will be screened.

Tove at Jacksons Lane (269a Archway Road, London N6 5AA) on Wednesday 23 October at 7.30pm. Get your tickets via Jacksons Lane’s website here.
