Aleksi Malmberg appointed Director of the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland

Aleksi Malmberg, holding a Master of Arts (MA) and an Executive MBA (EMBA), has been selected as the new Director of the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland. His four-year term will commence on March 5, 2025.

“This era urgently calls for even closer international cooperation and a vibrant civil society, so that we can find new alternatives for a sustainable future. To achieve this, we need more dialogue, creativity, and art”, Malmberg says.

“I feel privileged to begin this role alongside the Institute’s team and its extensive network of collaborators, continuing the meaningful work of building bridges through the Institute’s societal and arts programs.”

Aleksi Malmberg has extensive leadership experience in the cultural sector, both in Finland and internationally. Previously, he has served as the General Manager of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Director of the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux, Program Manager for the Helsinki Festival, and Executive Director of Our Festival, among other roles. He has also held numerous advisory positions in Finland and abroad.

“Aleksi combines solid leadership experience in the cultural field with a profound passion for various cultural disciplines,” says Malin Groop, Chair of the Board of the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland.

The outgoing Director, Doctor of Arts Jaakko Nousiainen, will take over as the Director of the Finnish Institute in Japan.

“We thank Jaakko for his excellent work during challenging times, which included Brexit and the global COVID-19 pandemic. Under Jaakko’s leadership, the Institute has achieved significant milestones,” says Malin Groop.
