We are seeking a new visionary colleague to join our tight-knit team in London.

For more than 30 years, the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland has been fostering impactful connections between Finland, the UK, and Ireland. As the leading expert on Finnish arts and culture in our region, we empower cross-sectoral exchange and build long-term cooperation. Our work is based on creativity, equity and sustainability.

We are a trusted partner bringing together artists, researchers, decision makers and communities for thought-leading dialogue — establishing Finland's creative practice as vital to shaping the future.

We are looking for a Head of Communications and Development

We are seeking a colleague to join our tight-knit team at the Institute, located at Somerset House, one of London's leading cultural venues. The selected candidate will work closely with the Institute’s Director, Programme Director and Administration and Project Manager, developing the Institute’s reach and impact through strategic communications and partnership development.

Your work includes:

Leading our communications Your main responsibility is developing the institute’s communications strategy and its execution, through our own platforms and media work, digitally and in-person. You have experience in stakeholder and media relations, with a track record of communications targeting diverse external audiences including cultural partners, media, funders, and policy makers.

Partnership development You build and maintain relationships and networks in the UK, Ireland, Finland, and internationally. You know how to open doors and build sustainable trust, you’re resourceful and not limited to traditional approaches.

Fundraising and impact You develop and lead funding initiatives whether that’s grants, institutional funding, sponsorships, or creative partnership models. You develop our frameworks to efficiently measure and communicate impact.

In this role, you will have succeeded when:

  • The Institute has significantly grown its visibility and recognition across the UK, Ireland, and beyond
  • Communications consistently position the Institute within broader societal and policy conversations
  • Partnerships generate tangible value — new collaborations, co-funding, and expanded networks. The funding base is diversified and growing.
  • Impact is measurable and effectively communicated

Qualifications:

You have proven ability to think and work both on strategic and practical levels; you are impact-driven and not afraid to take initiative. You have at least five years of experience in responsible communications, partnerships, or development roles, with strong understanding of the arts and culture sector.

You have demonstrable success leading communications in international context, in building partnerships and delivering impact. You are fluent in English and Finnish, and have excellent ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences and contexts.

We offer:

The Head of Communications and Development is recruited on a three-year contract with an option to extend the contract, subject to agreement. The position is full-time, with part-time arrangements possible upon agreement. This is an opportunity to shape communications and partnerships strategy for an established cultural institute at a pivotal moment in its development.

We offer a creative, inspiring working environment with competitive benefits. Support with relocation to London if needed. The Finnish Institute operates as part of Finland's network of Cultural and Academic Institutes and is a member of EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture). We promote an inclusive and anti-racist work culture and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

To apply, submit your application, including:

  • Your CV
