Michael Betteridge

Michael Betteridge is a Manchester based, British-Canadian composer and conductor known for bold, story-driven work across opera, orchestral, and choral music. Recent commissions include The Last Bit of the Moon for OperaUpClose and The Vanishing Forest for English Touring Opera. His work has been performed by BBC Philharmonic, Ensemble 10:10, Opera North Youth Chorus, London Symphony Orchestra, KANTOS, and Psappha, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4. His music has also been performed internationally across Europe, North America, and beyond.

Michael is recognised for his participatory approach, often creating projects that bring together professional musicians and communities. Opera-tic, a digital opera developed with people living with Tourette Syndrome, and Across the Sky, a community opera for Cheltenham Music Festival, were both nominated for Royal Philharmonic Society Awards in the Impact category. He is the founder of The Sunday Boys, Manchester’s LGBTQ+ open access low-voice choir. In 2023, Michael was made an Associate of the Royal Northern College of Music.
