Independent think tank and justice advocacy organisation Social Justice Ireland will host a seminar in Dublin to commemorate the tercentenary of the birth of Adam Smith. Smith is known as a leading social philosopher and political economist, and much of our current economic thinking is founded on his work.

The seminar will feature presentations from three experts, who will be talking about Adam Smith, his impact and legacy, and what we still have to learn. The seminar will consist of the following presentations:

‘Adam Smith at 300: Insights on the 21st century Economy from the Father of Economics’ by professor Charles M.A. Clark from St. John’s University, Boston

‘Adam Smith on Poverty and Taxation’ by Programme Director (Arts & Humanities programmes) Dr Sarah Otten from Carlow College, Ireland

‘Reforming social security to promote social, economic and ecological sustainability’ by research professor and professor Heikki Hiilamo from Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare and University of Helsinki, Finland
