Reetta Niemensivu at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival

Reetta Niemensivu, a Finnish illustrator, comic artist, and graphic designer, will be participating in the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, which takes place from September 27th to 29th, 2024, in Bowness-on-Windermere, situated in the Lake District National Park.

Niemensivu is an established artist based in Lahti, Finland. She has authored four comic albums published by Suuri Kurpitsa, in addition to numerous self-published works. Born in 1979, her work often draws on personal history, memories, and stories from her childhood.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is a prominent event in the comic arts calendar, offering a wide range of activities such as live draws, presentations, workshops, and exhibitions. It will take place in Bowness-on-Windermere, within the Lake District National Park, from September 27th to 29th, 2024.

During the festival, Reetta Niemensivu will be involved in various events including live drawing sessions, interviews, and workshops. These activities will provide an opportunity for attendees to gain insight into her artistic approach and the themes that influence her work.

Her publications include:

  • Lempi ja rakkaus (2010), a narrative centered on the love story of her grandmother.
  • Aavepianisti (2011), a collection of ghost stories.
  • Saniainen kukkii juhannuksena (2013), based on real events that took place on a midsummer’s day.
  • Maalarisiskot (2019), a story about Helene Schjerfbeck and three other Finnish women painters in the late 19th century.

In addition to her comic work, Reetta has illustrated several children’s books and is currently working on a series of small comics inspired by her diary entries.
