Teo Ala-Ruona, Marika Peura, and Miša Skalskis at the ICA
Join Marika Peura, Teo Ala-Ruona, and Miša Skalskis at the Institute of Contemporary Arts for the workshop series: Resonance.
This series brings together three workshops exploring movement and sound as a site of imagination, resonance, pleasure, and transformation. Through sound, touch and movement participants will engage in playful and poetic tasks stemming from each artists’ own practice. Through new formal approaches, artists Marika Peura, Teo Ala-Ruona, and Miša Skalskis, each offer a distinct entry into embodied experimentation - no experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
The workshops will be located in the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) theatre and tickets can be purchased through the ICA website (opens a new window)
18 July 2025 6pm - 8pm Teo Ala-Ruona: Body parts reimagined
This workshop invites participants into fictional and somatic explorations of the body’s physical magic. Focusing on three body parts—the mouth, the skin, and the brain—it draws from areas central to Ala-Ruona’s recent work. At the heart of his practice is the decategorization of the body: a way of making space for the inexplicability of being human, for strangeness, and for comical obscurity. Through movement, touching practices, and imaginative scores, participants will enter a playful reconfiguration of body parts in a psychophysical process shaped by Ala-Ruona’s performance works Lacuna (2021), Parachorale (2024), and the upcoming Damnat (2027).
Please bring comfortable clothing, a notebook, and optionally a small object or material you enjoy touching. This workshop will include group work.

19 July 2025 6pm - 8pm Miša Skalskis: Now That’s What I Call Mash-Up Ever wanted to rework a favourite track, exorcise an earworm with black metal flair, or break free from the creative limits of a two-CDJ setup? This playful and practical workshop introduces the art and history of musical mash-ups, from early bootlegs and 2000s internet culture to contemporary remix practices. Participants will explore the ethics of sampling, experiment with accessible new tools, and begin crafting their own sonic hybrids.
Please bring a laptop with audio editing software (or your favourite sampler), headphones, and a few tracks you'd like to play with.

20 July 2025 2pm - 4pm Marika Peura: Intimate Motions
In this workshop, participants will delve into the questions, practices, and physical explorations central to Marika Peura’s own choreographic practice. Through somatic, grinding movement investigations of the pelvis, participants will tune into the intimacy, emotionality, sensuality, and experientiality of the dancing body. Attention will be directed toward the gaze, how it is used, how it plays, and how it merges the roles of ‘doer’ and observer. Together, we will indulge in a gaze that looks back.
Please bring comfortable clothes for movement and a notebook if you’d like to take notes or reflect. This workshop will include group work.
