It is a season of 16 Finnish cinema classics that are being shown at London Close-Up Film Centre in January 2019.
The programme consists of both short and long films with the oldest, The Village Shoemakers, dating back to 1923 and the newest, The Eternal Road, having come out in 2017. By curating this programme, Alanen and Khoshbakht aim to shed light on these pieces which, apart from films by Aki Kaurismäki and Erik Blomberg, have enjoyed domestic success but remained relatively unknown to international audiences.
The project has received financial support from the Finnish Institute in London.
