Sara Kärpänen appointed new Programme Director of the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland

The Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland has appointed a new Programme Director for the next three year term. Sara Kärpänen has been appointed Programme Director, Arts.

Sara Kärpänen is a published nonfiction author, curator, and the founder and editor-in-chief of feminist art media Women of the Wick. With over a decade of experience, she has worked in lead communication and programme management roles in the creative and not-for-profit sectors in both Finland and the UK. Kärpänen holds an MA in Visual Culture from Aalto University and an MA degree from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London.

‘Internationality, urbanism and amplifying the voices and work of artists from diverse backgrounds are central to my mission. I am honoured to continue the Institute’s equality-driven work and utilise my vast communication expertise in this role.’ says Sara Kärpänen.

‘Sara’s strong expertise in culture and communication combined with her wide networks create new opportunities for developing the Institute’s impact,’ says Jaakko Nousiainen, Director of the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland.

Kärpänen will start her work in August.
